WELCOME

The Institute for Composer Diversity is based in the School of Music at the State University of New York at Fredonia. ICD—the winner of the 2018 ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Media/Internet Award, and a recipient of a 2020 Sphinx Venture Fund Grant—is dedicated to the celebration, education, and advocacy of music created by composers from historically excluded groups through database resources and programming analysis.

SEARCH OUR DATABASES

In addition to our Composer Database and Works Database, we also have several specific databases with much more detailed search parameters. These search interfaces allow users to discover composers based on self-identified information. ICD recognizes—and urges all users to recognize—that every person represented in this database is a creator with a story and a unique body of work and we hope you enjoy exploring their music.

REPORTS & RESOURCES

By exploring how repertoire is being programmed within professional and educational settings, ICD is helping to shed light on how that repertoire can be diversified. The reports and resources below are created in partnership with the League of American Orchestras, the National Federation of High School Associations, the Midwest Clinic, the American String Teachers Association, and the College Band Directors Association.
